Day 52 - Rohnert Park to Eureka

There is a lawn at our hotel. That means a morning game of football.

It's 6 degrees C - but we've nabbed a table in the sun at the Oakville Grocery. It's 10 am - and yes we ordered pizza. Oakville Grocery pizza. When in Healdsburg - you must eat Oakville pizza.

There are two required stops in this corridor of US 101 in Healdsburg. This is the first. The amazing pancetta and wild mushroom pizza can be fired on request at 10am.

It's autumn all over again in Healdsburg.

The second required stop in Healdsburg: Fideaux. Emma knows the way.

The fall leaves in Healdsburg are riotous colours.

It's big. It's amazing. And the whole thing is for sale.

Doen't this Panda seem a little creepy?

The hand is pretty creepy too.

50 years from now photographers will come by this spectacle and wonder what the heck was going on here. Wait a minute - what the heck is going on here?

This big sandbar outside of Eureka is a well-known place for football.

Lucky Emma has scored a little beach time every day since we arrived at the coast - even on long transit days. Lucky Emma.

301 Restaurant at Carter House. It turns out Mark Carter was dining in his restaurant at the very next table, and we learned an awful lot about what it takes to run this inn, the fabulous restaurant, and operate Envy and Carter Wines in Calistoga. The energy required is daunting. And Mark is a real nice guy. 301 has been a fixture on our travel itinerary for years. And don't miss the inn.

It's sub-zero outside, and we still make Emma go on a walk to see the Christmas lights.

Eureka has a magic castle high on the hill.

St. Basil's of Eureka. Ok, it's the Ingomar Club. Private. Secretive. All-male. Kinda like the Vatican.

Christmas lights melt when there are too many of them and they get too hot.
